We lose value each year in our earning ability and relatability if we are not continuing to add to our knowledge and skills.
The non-physical world is all about expansion and we can see it in the way our world is always expanding in new product and service ideas. For example look at the way we have expanded from the telegraph to the telephone to the modern day mobile phone that can now stream movies and videos and even connect us to games we can play with others online via our phone. The mobile phone allows us to not only talk to people but also to text and even video chat with them. All of this was one idea that built upon another and another and another. This is expansion. Continuing to upgrade your knowledge and skills is expansion. Someone receives an idea - a thought - and puts it into action - they tweak it and tweak it again - until the product matches the vision. Then lo and behold a new product is now in action and no longer just an idea! Yep, you're right, this is expansion!
Choosing to continue to update yourself and to follow your desire to know more keeps you interesting, relatable and knowledgable which translates into a more fulfilling life. Not only does your earning ability increase but it gives an opportunity for your relationships to deepen and new doors to open for you.
We see this in the hiring of the younger generation over hiring someone older. It has alot to do with the younger generation's desire and ability to discover and learn new things and stay current. Often when someone has been in a job several years, or several years too long, their desire to learn has taken a steep decline and they get stuck in the 'old ways' of how things have been done rather than challenge themselves to learn a new way of doing things and the benefits it can bring.
We see this often times with the kids learning and growing in technology and mom and dad not able to or more likely not willing to share in it and becoming 'outdated' in their childrens minds. The new kid in town, school or work brings with him/her new eyes to see things. They are not caught up in the 'we always did it this way' thinking. They come in with new ideas and ways of doing things that may or may not be for us, however, we will never know until we give those new ways a chance. Being open to new ideas is one way for us to stay young in heart.
Honor that desire within you to grow and to learn. If your kids are interested in something new that just came out, find out why and pay attention to what interests them about it. They have been hearing and learning your way of doing things their entire life and have learned alot from you. Now it's your opportunity to model openness and a willingness to learn from them. A desire to learn is a natural guidance system embedded into us from the beginning. A desire to learn about something or to increase our knowledge in an area leads us to growth, to expansion and we were made to expand in our thinking and our doing.
If you pay attention to what your children, or the youth are paying attention to, it will naturally expand you and you will naturally stay current and thus increase your value in work, home and society. I am not saying to take on their beliefs I am only suggesting to stay open to what is being developed and how it is implemented and the value those close to you are getting from it. By this you will naturally be acquiring more knowledge and the application of that knowledge will naturally add to your skill set.
Add to your earning ability and relatability today by following that desire to learn. Follow your natural curiosity and you will very naturally expand and remain young in heart.
