Few would argue there is a force greater than ourselves; a Source Energy many call God or Spirit. We've put our faith there for many years possibly without even realizing it. We say things like "It will all work out", "Someone's watching over you", "Don't worry it will all be okay".
We all have a toolbelt that we use in life. In fact we have been gathering these tools for our entire life whether we realize it or not. These tools are things that we use to help us in moving through life. Some are old and no longer serve us and need to be let go while others are very valuable and we would not want to go a day without them.
With so much happening in our world right now I wanted to give you something to hold on to and to encourage you. I wanted to share with you one of my most treasured tools so that you can use it as well. I use this tool often. You can see the marks of use on it from it being with me for so long and being used so much. It is my tool marked "Pro-Peace". That means that when there is worry and fear abounding I use this tool not to fight against those things but rather to CREATE peace in me and around me. This powerful tool I have leaned into so often originally came to me as an inspiring passage years ago. We can glean inspiration and encouragement from so many things and it does not matter if we believe the same or if we each have different beliefs as we are all individuals and Spirit looks out for us and knows what will inspire, encourage and comfort each of us individually. This particular day on my journey I happened to discover this passage and held on. It is Psalm 91.
If you have never read Psalm 91 or even heard of it before let me give you a brief overview. It paints a beautiful, descriptive picture of being watched over and protected; for me the words just jump off the page as I read them and I picture this for me and for my loved ones.
Just like the picture in this blog, there are times when I feel very vulnerable and get concerned for me and for my loved ones, especially with all that is happening around us. The Psalm 91 Tool reminds me that there is no need to fear because I am being watched over. It reminds me that I am choosing to believe something so why not lean into the belief of Protection that gives me peace over the anxiety caused by fear. It gives me a great sense of comfort that me and my loved ones are not alone and that we are watched over, loved and protected. Before long I find my heart at peace again. Take this tool with you today, it's not a tool on loan it is your own tool to keep, knowing it is talking about YOU and YOUR LOVED ONES and lean into it as you go about your day. When you catch yourself worrying or upset over the news or state of affairs, take out your Psalm 91 Tool and be comforted.
(The Message Bible translation)
1 You who sit down in the High God's presence, spend the night in Shaddai's shadow,
2 Say this: "God, you're my refuge. I trust in you and I'm safe!"
3 That's right - he rescues you from hidden traps, shields you from deadly hazards.
4 His huge outstretched arms protect you - under them you're perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm.
5 Fear nothing - not wild wolves in the night, not flying arrows in the day,
6 Not disease that prowls through the darkness, not disaster that erupts at high noon.
7 Even though others succumb all around, drop like flies right and left, no harm will even graze you.
8 You'll stand untouched, watch it all from a distance, watch the wicked turn into corpses.
9 Yes, because God's your refuge, the High God your very own home,
10 Evil can't get close to you, harm can't get through the door.
11 He ordered his angels to guard you wherever you go.
12 If you stumble, they'll catch you; their job is to keep you from falling.
13 You'll walk unharmed among lions and snakes, and kick young lions and serpents from the path.
14 "If you'll hold on to me for dear life," says God, "I'll get you out of any trouble. I'll give you the best of care if you'll only get to know and trust me.
15 Call me and I'll answer, be at your side in bad times; I'll rescue you, then throw you a party.
16 I'll give you a long life, give you a long drink of salvation!"
