Have you ever stood on the shoreline of a beautiful river and the water looked so intensely inviting and yet you wondered….is it cold? Am I going to freeze if I get in? Before you know it you’re moving from the shoreline and find yourself putting your toe in the water. You find out, hey this is great! I’m in! Next thing you know you’re swimming in the water and having a great time! Do you realize what you did? You just came out of your comfort zone and created a wonderful experience for yourself! Could you have gone the whole day without going in the water? Absolutely. However, look how great your day became by choosing to find out if the water was right for you – and you even marked it as one of your new favorite spots to visit!
Curiosity is a wonderful thing! Curiosity so often leads our lives. It literally leads us. Curiosity is the desire to learn or know about anything. It is the very thing that can move us from where we are to where we want to be.
It is always a good thing to allow yourself to question things, to allow yourself to be curious about things, people, events, places, thoughts, beliefs and more. If you are afraid to question something, ask yourself why you are afraid to question it. What are you afraid of? Are you afraid that if you question it the status quo will be disrupted? Are you afraid that “if I question something it will isolate me because everyone else is going one way and now I’m questioning that direction”?
How about this: What if I followed my curiosity and I ended finding answers to things I’ve wanted to know? What if I followed my curiosity and I found a whole new way of thinking that transformed my life? What if I followed my curiosity and found people or a person I really connect with that totally expanded me and enhanced my life?
You are on the shoreline and a new way of thinking or new way of looking at something comes up and presents itself to you. It looks inviting but how can you be sure it’s ok, or that it will enhance your life, your well-being? Just be curious enough to put a toe in the water and explore the thought, the way of thinking, the stepping out, the getting to know that person and you may just find a new way of thinking or looking at something that is exactly what you needed! Put your toe in the water today and see where it leads.
