We look through the windows outside to 'the world' and trust our home to keep us safe. To keep the outside 'out there' and to keep us within its walls safe and sound. We feel so violated if someone comes in uninvited and tries to take things over because it's something we have built and live there comfortably, it is 'our space'.
Patterns of thought that we hold to become the very house we build and begin to dwell in. These patterns of thought are called 'beliefs'.
The window coverings are the eyes to the house, blocking out light or allowing it in. The coverings become a filter as we look 'outside' even into our own backyard with our relaxing lawn chairs in the grass and shade covering us so the light is not beating down on us while we relax.
Beliefs are just ideas we have adapted, chosen and aligned ourselves with. Beliefs are ideas that we feel best serve us from our point of view. Just like with our home, we feel they keep us safe and help us to block out what we perceive as harmful and allow in what we perceive as helpful. We can get very comfortable with our beliefs just like sitting in our favorite chairs in the backyard surrounded by nature.
Even the most beautiful home can become a prison if you never allow yourself to go outside, take a drive or walk and be away from it from time to time.
"A belief is just a way of thinking you build your life around." PH
We are designed to expand and be challenged in our thinking and in life. That very challenging thought or experience is designed to expand your world and get you to think differently, more clearly and even possibly to have a different outlook.
What are you holding on to for dear life? What is keeping you in your house afraid to venture out? What ideas and thoughts are you afraid to question because they might 'open the door to something bad' as opposed to opening your understanding and allowing you to gain new insight?
Mine was hearing and understanding that life was not just a bunch of lessons to learned coupled with survival of the fittest. It seemed to me that my experience supported this pattern of thought so letting go of it was very challenging to me since I was comfortable in my discomfort.
Once I let go of my perceived 'safe place' in the house of my beliefs that I had built, and I allowed myself to explore this area, I soon discovered life was not at all the 'bad thing' it was perceived to be in my mind but rather liberating, freeing for both me and my clients and a path that led to hope and peace for those that came to me for help.
My perceptions and views that I adopted my beliefs from had told me it was a bad thing to venture out and open up myself to new ways of thinking and being in the world; that it would open me up to 'bad things' and I better be careful and just do the best with the information I had. My experience was quite the opposite. The more I searched and questioned and sought after the answers to things that just didn't add up the more peace I began to find and the more solutions were able to present themselves. Had I not had questions and wondered and been curious I would have been locking myself in my house rather than using it as a place to come home to and expand and grow in.
Are you ready to throw open the window coverings of your house and let some light in? Are you ready to venture out of your 'safe, comfortable house' to experience a world and people different than you? In what areas are you being challenged to expand your thinking?
By venturing out you just may get some great decorating ideas for your home and even an idea for an expansion of the house itself. You never know until you follow that nudge inside of you to check it out.
