It's crazy how right now we ARE in the beginning of the busiest time of the year. When did this sneak up on us? I thought I knew what day it was but decorations, costumes and candy abounding all tell me IT HAS BEGUN!
Starting now the air begins to be filled with excitement for costume design and preparation, candy, trick or treating and fall harvest parties. Soon after that comes Thanksgiving, Christmas and then the New Year.
The excitement and joy these times bring is wonderful yet challenging. The challenge it all brings is to stay peaceful in the midst of joyful chaos.
This year we are coming off of the election and there are and will be many emotions that go with that event alone much less all the 'normal' stresses of a 'regular' holiday season like....hey who's hosting the holidays? How will I have the time or money for getting all the gifts? When do I schedule in our family spiritual time to honor what these holidays are all about? What if you don't have family to be with? That can be extremely stressful all by itself. That may sound like relief for some but I have been away from my family at holidays and it is not as easy on you as you may think. What about the parents or partners with family in the military unable to come home for the holidays. How do we deal with all of this?
So how to stay in a place to enjoy these times while recognizing the stresses that may be there to get 'everything' done AND be the 'hostess with the mostest'?
Here are three tips to help you find joy in the chaos:
Make a list of the have-tos awaiting you & ask the Universe to help you with those things
Get if off your mind and on to paper, this literally frees up space in our mind to be able to focus verus running the list in the background of our thoughts like a computer program and being distracted. Ask God, the Universe, Source to help you to take care of things on the list. You may be surprised by how your list diminishes as people contact you and things are offered such as the bringing food over etc. and you realize you never even had to pick up the phone.
Start the day with YOU in mind
That may feel selfish, however, for you to have something to give to others in your life take a few minutes early in the day to find your happy as you get going into your day.
Some people like to meditate, that's great ....did you know that meditating encompasses more than just sitting with hot tea or coffee and reading something inspirational? Did you realize when you listen to music you love or even better yet move or dance to it that this is a form of meditation. Meditation is all about connecting you to the inner you, the Spirit you, and starting your day with music and sounds you love can be very inspirational. How about walking your dog or just doing a morning walk by yourself? These are just as much a form of meditation as anything else. Truly for some meditation is sitting quietly with hot tea or coffee and reading something inspirational, for some it is listening to a teacher they enjoy and gaining some insights, for others it is just sitting quietly and listening to thier heart or the quietness or the sounds of the new morning outside. However, if you are someone that enjoys moving and grooving then one of the above more active ideas may better suit you. Just take time in the early part of the day to find your happy and fill your heart no matter your preference; this will set the course for your day. It shifts you on the inside from 'oh great here we go into another crazy day' into 'OK I'm ready let's do this!'
Recognize others are feeling the same stresses this time of year
My dad would tell me "Paula it doesn't take 2 seconds to be kind." I always thought that was a crazy way to say it when I was young but now I get it - it takes energy no matter what so why not choose kindness and courtesy? Show your understanding with a smile or a kind word, it WILL come back to you, maybe not with that person but you can't give a smile or kind word away without it returning to you in like form some how some way.
Focus on being present and building good times
Putting your heart into what you are doing and being present with the people you are with will reap you great rewards. You are all in this together and are desiring a fun experience so be present and enjoy. If someone's not into the event, then allow them to do what it is they choose, like staying home or not trick or treating. By you lovingly allowing them to do their thing, without heaping guilt or disappoint on them, you may just find them joining in because of the lack of pressure they feel to participate.
Just a few tips to help you participate AND enjoy this holiday season that IS upon us!
